Pool Fill Time Calculator

Estimate how long the remaining water will take at a measured, steady flow. Use a whole-pool volume and filled percentage, or enter the remaining water directly.

Units

0 to 100 percent of volume, not percent of wall height.

Flow can change when other water fixtures are in use.

Measure actual flow at the hose

Time how long it takes to fill a container of known volume using the same hose arrangement you expect to use. Divide that volume by elapsed minutes. For example, 5 US gallons in 15 seconds is 20 US gal/min. Repeat the observation if pressure changes or other fixtures are running. A hose diameter or water pressure reading alone is not a measured delivery rate.

A half-full pool may not be half its water volume

The filled percentage is a percentage of volume, not the fraction of wall height that looks wet. A sloping floor or deep well makes that distinction important. When possible, enter the remaining volume directly. A full pool gives zero remaining time; a zero flow rate is invalid because it cannot predict a completion time.

Pool filling examples

Constant flow is a planning assumption. A change in flow changes the estimate inversely, while a change in remaining water changes it proportionally.

Water charges are separate from filling time

Only your entered tariff is used. The optional rate is USD per 1,000 US gallons, even when water volume is displayed in liters. A utility may also charge sewer fees, fixed fees or a different marginal tier. Ask the utility which charges apply before treating this subtotal as a bill. Delivered water, restrictions and permit requirements are not included.

Methodology

Remaining volume equals total volume multiplied by one minus the filled fraction. Minutes equal remaining liters divided by liters per minute. The time headline rounds up to a whole minute; the calculation retains its original precision. Evaporation, leakage, interrupted flow and utility restrictions are not predicted. Follow local filling restrictions and do not leave filling unattended.

FAQ

How long does it take to fill a 10,000 gallon pool?

At a measured 20 US gal/min, 10,000 remaining gallons takes 500 minutes, or 8 hours 20 minutes. The same pool at a different flow takes a different time.

Can I enter liters per minute?

Yes. Metric mode accepts liters and liters per minute. Switching units preserves the physical values.

Does the estimate include the water already in the pool?

Only as a subtraction in total-volume mode. In remaining-volume mode, enter only the water still needed; do not subtract the filled percentage again.
